While you can find five other Ascensions in North Texas, Hands + Rose Coffee has only one shop, and it’s in the Design District. Hidden away, attached to a church on Manufacturing Street, this small shop also makes great cortados, cappuccinos and lattes. Make sure to try some appetizers at eclectic American restaurant Foxyco.

Also, if you’re looking for a new weekend brunch spot, Ascension’s new brunch menu includes $12 mimosa carafes, a Brunch Burger, French Toast Brulee, and Smoked Salmon Benedict. That effort is possibly best noticed at the Oak Lawn shop, which reopened Aug. 23, 2021, after being closed for three months for the renovation. The formerly tiny shop is now spacious and bright, with a new dinner menu to go along with the wine list Ascension already served in the evenings. Jason Connelly recently was the executive sous chef of the Adolphus in downtown Dallas. A certified Q Arabica Grader, Jessica oversees green coffee purchases forAscension as well as managing the coffee roasting division of the organization. In the vibrant Hardwood district, the teal façade coffee house has an artistic atmosphere.

At that time we thought the Design District was one of the most exciting, hippest, growing areas of Dallas. Modern wicker lights, big windows and leather couches now fill the room, that includes the building next door they combined with their own. What is distinctive about this location is a manual pour-over coffee station, slightly different menu options, and live music on Thursday and Friday nights. Mr. Mettendorf was also kind enough to share some of his favorite drinks with us so that you might enjoy them through my lens. He prepared the petite and remarkably intense Tahitian vanilla gelato affogato, as well as the pleasantly manicured cappuccino.

Recently, our go-to neighborhood café + wine bar revamped the shop to improve and expand upon the traditional coffee store experience. From the completely renovated interior to the upgraded guest amenities, and major menu additions, read on to find out more about what makes the flagship location even better than before. Bar Charles is the newest addition to the Design District’s bar scene, which is slowly growing. An extension of The Charles, an Italian restaurant opened by Chas Martin just 18 months ago, the champagne bar can be found around back with a cool, speakeasy-esque entrance.

If you’re feeling fancy, you can also get some dry-aged chili cheese fries for $18. It’s no secret that Dallasites love a good happy hour, not to mention a weekend brunch. Tell us about Ascension’s happy hour and brunch offerings. My drink of choice was a nonfat chai latte, beautifully decorated with cinnamon, revealing an intense gingered bite beneath each creamy sip. Now that I've had a taste of Ascension, I'm intrigued to try more.

Ascension is the only place in Dallas that offers a profoundly exacting siphon brew – calculated, weighed, and unbelievably smooth and rich. And I am newly in love with the Kyoto brew, made beyond my understanding from a tower of glass beakers that sit just behind the counter. This neighborhood coffee bar and market is the most similar to Foxtrot. The local chain was started by avid foodie couple Zac and Emily with their friend Cullen.

You’ll also find reasonably priced main dishes like pappardelle Pomodoro, wild mushroom gnocchi, and a wagyu beef Reuben sandwich. From affordable to exclusive, we found nearly two dozen independent companies in Los Angeles and Orange counties offering coffee subscriptions and clubs. Some have multiple cafes while others sell directly to customers without a brick-and-mortar space. One club features a rotating selection of local roasters, including several that don't offer their own subscriptions. Southern California brands Groundwork, Cafecito Organico and Bodhi Leaf Coffee Traders also boast bean clubs.

Brunch is available on Saturdays and Sundays in the Design District, Irving and Fort Worth, and at the Crescent in Uptown Dallas. Maybe if you had a coffee subscription service, things would be a little easier. We are a collection of coffee and culinary artisans proudly sharing our passion, craft, and expertise in an approachable way. Founded in Cedar Hill, Texas this coffee house has expanded across North Texas.

Prior to completing his 16-year career with Marriott, he was responsible for seven restaurants on property at the J.W. This downtown European-style market and cafe has similar offerings as Foxtrot. The brand new Virgin Hotel, which just opened this December, is an attraction in itself. With it comes chef Matt McCallister’s latest restaurant, Commons Club, as well as a rooftop pool club with drinks and bites and Funny Library Coffee Shop. Part cidery, part arcade, Bishop Cidercade is one of the most fun places to go with a date or friends.

The restaurant boasts seated dining and a cafe where patrons can grab a quick coffee. You may be surprised to hear that Sassetta, an Italian restaurant, has one of the best brunches in the Design District. If you have been to their OG spot, on Oak Lawn right after you cross into the Design District, you know it as a quaint cafe hidden behind a wall of vines. The plants remain, but it’s no longer quaint, having expanded and renovated its space!

If you're not the type to define yourself as coffee-obsessed, that's OK. All you need to know is that there's a new, locally owned spot to get your coffee fix right behind the Meddlesome Moth. Connelly also wants to “energize” brunch, which now includes a brunch burger, smoked salmon Benedict, and a shrimp and grain bowl with agave-jalapeño vinaigrette.

Finally, the cortado, which is half espresso and half steamed milk with very little foam, danced and dipped into my netherworlds with a simple gesture of giving and love. The interior of Ascension combines rich woods, chrome, brick and their signature bright red bent wood chairs. Because of this weekend's unseasonably beautiful weather, most of Ascension's customers were enjoying their beverages on the coffee house's front patio.

Bowlounge is a vintage-style bowling alley with food, drinks and other games. Located in an old warehouse space, the spot has a unique old school bowling alley feel with modern touches. While bowling, playing ping pong, or pool, you can order appetizers like homemade pretzel balls made with Local Buzz and Velvet Hammer beer cheese. Several burgers, wings, pizzas and entrees are also available. Founded by Michael Peticolas in 2011, Peticolas Brewing Company has a taproom that offers 33 beers, including the popular Velvet Hammer.

The next Ascension is expected to open in Casa Linda, east of Dallas’ White Rock Lake. In what sounds like Ascension’s most interesting design so far, they expect to open a coffee and lunch spot inside the chapel of the former White Rock Community Church on Garland Road.

Craft cocktails range from a mezcal, pineapple, poblano, lime and cumin bitters Kickstarter to a Nutty Old Fashioned with bourbon, rye, orgeat and black walnut bitters. For a bite, try the Yellowfin Poke Bowl or Standard Burger. Ascension Coffee is a great spot for coffee and all-day breakfast. Ascension Coffee brings a new idea of the depth and artisanal potential of coffee in Dallas, and everything about this wide and welcoming café will impress and delight all brands of coffee lovers. Allow Mr. Mettendorf and his aptly capable staff impress the pants right off your body. After a few of the usual permit-type delays from the city, a new coffee joint has officially opened its doors to the coffee-obsessed masses of Dallas.
